I have still been unable to locate the burial record for 1917 Dudley I have spoken to Darkhouse Lane Chapel and they don't have the record for this burial. I have spoken to National Archives Kew and they also don't hold burial records for this. They are indicating that I would need to visit the Dudley Archives but I live too far away. Any more suggestions please Thank You Pam

Thank you for all the details. I have spoken to Dudley Archives but their charges are. £21 per hour and as I don't know how long the search will take I will at present look for more exact details first. I am currently in contact with Darkhouse Lane chapel and hope they can help with more precise details. Thank you again. Kind Regards Pam

Just to expand on Joan's post. How she would proceed is how I expected you to proceed, and the URL I gave did provide contact info & further links in this regard.

I have seen burial registers from Co Durham where a grave # was recorded in the margin, but these were from an earlier era, when the burials were in the churchyard. This is unlikely to be the case here - deaths in urban areas from the latter part of the 19th century on would almost certainly be in some cemetery, probably one operated by the local municipality.

Note for Joan - Scottish d.certs 1855-1860 had "Place of burial", but the examples I've seen didn't give grave details - my gg grandad d 1855, and his just says Churchyard of Aberdour, like the next death, and the other death on page just says Churchyard of Pitsligo (an adjacent parish). Here's an URL that links to a free 1855 d.cert example:

Thanks for the details. The Parents are correct John James Millington and Fanny Short. If I lived nearer then I would go to the local archives but I am way down south. I am happy to just find the burial record even if it does not identify the grave. Kind Regards Pam

If this is the parents:
West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1912
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
MILLINGTON John J SHORT Fanny Coseley, Christ Church Dudley Register Office 208/008/349

then it's worth noting that the burial rego's for this church are held locally:
http://www.dudley.gov.uk/resident/libraries-archives/local-history--heritage/archive-and-local-history/guide-to-sources-held/church-of-england--anglican-parish-records/
CofE Parish Register Handlist [pdf / 58KB] - download of this pdf triggered by:
http://www.dudley.gov.uk/EasysiteWeb/getresource.axd?AssetID=5357&type=full&servicetype=Attachment
Here's an excerpted parish:

COSELEY:Christ Church
Originals: Microfilm:
C 1830-2004 C 1830-1936
M 1837-2008 M 1837-1934
B 1830-1984 B 1830-1936

However, that burial record probably doesn't identify the grave.

I would check out:

thank you I know my Grandparents (the childs' parents) were married at Christ Church Coseley. but have no details of where the burial details will be.. kind regards Pam

Andrew

Andrew Report 13 May 2015 20:38

Depending on exactly where the burial took place records could be at

Stafford RO, Dudley RO, Sandwell Archives or Worcester RO.

This was strong chapel area and the non conformist records are scattered and some appear to be incomplete.

I have family in same area and have had to visit each to find records.

Please may I ask if anyone lives in the Dudley Staffordshire area that is able to look up the burial details at the local archives for a child that died age 2. I live a long way down south and am not able to visit. The child was my Uncle (My Mums Brother). The name is John James Millington and he died on 8th July 1917 at 76 Chapel Street Coseley . His Parents were John James Millington and Fanny Millington (nee Short) The home address of the Parents was 3 Darkhouse Lane Coseley The address where he died was his Grandparents as his Father was serving overseas in France when he died. The registration district on the death certificate is Dudley sub district Sedgley. The child was born on 6th March 1915 Thank you for any help you can give Kind Regards Pam
