Don't worry - I'd made the same mistake at first ;-)

Sorry Det- I misread your initial post. I thought she had died on her 90th.

Thank you both.

Although she was known as Lizzie, her given name was apparently something else. The relative and her father believed is was Elizabeth.

The only Epping death on freebmd is
Deaths Sep 1964
ALLEN ELIZABETH 67 EPPING 5A 53
which is far too young.

Is Romford feasable??
Deaths Jun 1963 (>99%)
ALLEN ELIZABETH 93 ROMFORD 5A 353

After googling, it seems that lots of people have had the same problem.

I don't know the answer but based on this reply:

http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/LONDON/2008-08/1217591377

"Claybury Asylum is in Woodford Bridge (now in the London Borough of
Redbridge, previously in Essex). So far as I can tell, it hovers
precariously on the boundary of the Romford and West Ham registration
districts, so unless someone else on the list can come up with a definitive
answer you should probably consider both when searching for his death"

Something that has been puzzling me for years, which you may be able to solve.

Elizabeth Allen
Age in 1911: 35
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1876
Relation to Head: Daughter (Child)
Gender: Female
Birth Place: Sittingbourne, Hent
Civil Parish: Edmonton
County/Island: Middlesex
Country: England
Street address: 28 Hawthorn Road, Edmonton
Marital Status: Single
Occupation: Machinist
Registration district: Edmonton

According to a relative,
........
"She lived with them (in Edmonton) from 1950 for 15 years then
went into North Middlesex Hospital for a spell, then to the old people's section at Claybury Hospital in Essex where she passed away. This was a Mental Hospital but it was the only place available.

I know she passed her 90th birthday but neither of us can remember how old she
actually was. Hopefully the fact she passed away in Essex will be useful to you."
.......
Any ideas please? Is the relatives memory fault? I'm fairly sure she was still living in the early 1960's, but after then its a bit hazy.

If anyone knows or can work out which reg district Claybury Hospital is/was, that would be a step in the right direction.

Thank you.
