Yvonne ......

Gins had already found that ............. see her post at 17:33

and Olivia Milicent is David's grandmother, so I presume that he also has that information.

(I'll let David know how to find his replies) :-)

Could David be reading the birth surname wrongly and was her mother's name 'Cheshire' ?

This looks like the death for the daughter of the mysterious Clarissa

Name:Olivia Millicent Cheshire

Birth Date:25 Jul 1900

Date of Registration:Apr 1985

Age at Death:84

Registration district:Surrey Mid-eastern

Inferred County:Surrey

Volume:17

Page:161

I'm not seeing a marriage for a 'Buckle' to a 'Cheshire'

Scrub that...........the marriage was in 1923!

I admit to looking and being stumped.....

Perhaps Clarissa was a stage name?

MarieCeleste, that does sound quite a good theory. Clarissa was certainly a lot younger than him, so perhaps he was smitten, but they didn't have enough in common to sustain the match?

I've also looked for admissions to asylums, and divorce petitions, but nothing showing in England and Wales.

James George Buckle appears to have been an architect that specialised in building theatres (according to newspaper archives and Google).

Could Clarissa be someone he met via a theatrical connection?

David, what information does it give on your grandmother's birth certificate?

Hi Kucinta

I also gave up ............... went for dinner :-)

greyghost ..............

that was a good thought!

but she seems to have drifted in, and then out, of James and the children's lives.

I assume that the boy Thomas George was her son?

I did note that James and his first wife seem not to have had any children

HI Sylvia, David did say marriage between 1896 and 1900, so I suspect he either knows, or believes as we do, that the 1896 death is that of the first Mrs Buckle.

Not getting anywhere with Clarissa as either Fisher or Buckle apart from the 1901.

Passenger lists were a good idea - I did British marriages abroad but no joy. The census image does say Huntington rather than Huntingdon, but you never know if the enumerator wrote the census book up wrong.

Think I'm going to have to give up and go to bed.

Looks like James G died in 1924 in wandsworth - I was wondering if Clarissa might show up in either London or Surrey ERs with him, but no joy.

Nothing on Scotland's People either - so they didn't do a romantic elopement!

I looked at this as I thought she had an unusual name combination and could have been sticking close to the truth later in life. The age is out compared to the 1901 census and/or she could have married a Fisher before a Buckle
England & Wales births 1837-2006 Transcription

First name(s) CLARISSA OLIVIA
Last name MANN
Birth year 1871
Birth quarter 1

However - The family is in Brampton, Hunts 1871, in Lincs by 1881, Bradford 1891 transcribed on FMP as Clarissa Otham (O Mann on original) marries Edward Sockett in Yorkshire 1896, is widowed by 1901 and marries a Herbert Jackson in Yorkshire 1905 and is there on the 1911 census. Will leave for elimination.

I was looking for that very same thing ........... and thought that 1896 death was a fitting one for Sarah Ann

Clarissa seems to appear and then disappear.

I did note that one Public Family Tree was querying whether her birthplace Huntington was actually in the US ........ so I've also been looking on the passenger lists. Nothing that seemed like an "ah ha" moment

Kucinta Report 14 Jun 2015 00:52

James had been married previously, did his wife definitely die, or was he perhaps not free to marry Clarissa?

Census 1881:

My Grandmother was born in 1900 and was named Olivia Millicent Buckle. Clarissa was her mother. I am trying to find if and when she married James George Buckle between 1896 and 1900. Can find no trace of Clarissa before or after the birth of my grandmother even though on the 1901 census it says that she was born in 1878 in Huntingdonshire.
