I found a family in the 1841 census living in Sparrowhill Loughborough but I can't seem to find them in the 1851 census.. Can anyone help? |

This looks like them in 1851 (although some of the details are different from 1841):- |

This could be the census record for 1851 that Yvonne found:- |

The family that I know are in my family tree were living in Baxters Gate Loughborough.. |

They are a separate family.. Elizabeth was my 3rd great grandmother married to john McDowall who died in 1845 |

So the second 1851 record posted by Kathleen (20 June, 11:29) is the family in your tree? |

I'm confused - do you mean that the family in Wood Gate, Loughborough in 1851, whose children's names and ages match what you've said about "your" family, isn't the right one - ie - your family? |

:-S :-S I'm confused now too!! I was answering Yvonne who said she couldn't find a death for Thomas if elizabeth was a widow in 1851.. That's because that Elizabeth was married to John.. They are in my family tree! Hope that makes sense! |

As your John was born in Loughborough, and Thomas was born in Scotland (or Ireland, if the Manchester family in 1851, posted by Kathleen, is the same one), on the face of it, it doesn't look as if there would be any link, unless in a previous generation. |

Yes that's right! I wondered as (and I'm probably going to confuse again!) a relative (no longer alive) once mentioned that a soldier named John Mcdowall from either Scotland or Ireland who fought at Waterloo met a girl in kegworth and got married.. I started digging and found Benjamin john mcdowall wAs born in Kegworth in 1812.. Dad was John and mum Mary so I started to think story was true.. Just trying to find possible brother or sisters for Benjamin.. That's why I started to look at Thomas as there was a john living next door.. Tenuous I know! :-) :-D |

Is this family any relation of yours? I don't see them in 1841 |

Not that I know.. Could be.. I'll have to keep digging.. Can you see anything for John and Mary Mcdowall who christened Benjamin John Mcdowall in kegworth in 1812? |
