It may be worth considering that he wasn't born in England or Wales.

It may be that his birth surname wasn't Fletcher but that of a stepfather if he was illegitimate or his father was killed during WW1.

wow did not expect that response,brilliant i have been looking on and off for a few years and not got very far, the service records were very helpful i wonder if he left the army for a while, then was draughted again in 1939, because on his marrige certificate and my mums birth certificate it gives his address as cadogan place chelsea,and he was a hotel porter. i will be sending off for that death certificate and i only know his fathers name was frederick because it s on his marrige certificate thanks so much, also i cannot find a birth or census record maybe they were destroyed during the blitz

i am searching for family members of stanley joseph fletcher, he was born in 1909, and before ww2 worked in a hotel in cadogan place chelsea, his fathers name was frederick, in dec 1935 he married johanna burke in swindon in oct 1936 they had a daughter margaret mary, during ww2 he was in the guards stationed in pimlico, he and johanna parted after the war and i would love to know what happened to him and if i have any family members out there
