As you have the birth certificate, have you search the 1939 register using his DOB please?

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 24 Sep 2018 15:41

I have a baby on my tree who has no birth cert but does have a death cert, he was baptised before his death that's how I picked him up as my gt grandparents names came up in hints with his baptism.

My father had a brother born and died before he was born. I know the name and where he slots in (a 35 month gap), I know he died of meningitis but there's no record of him. We believe he either died very quickly after birth and as a kindness called a stillbirth (to save money) or a payment made to grave diggers to put him in a grave about to be used so he was in consecrated ground.

Elizabeth Report 24 Sep 2018 15:26

That's a thought, but she went on to have 14 children in 25yrs , and both came from large family, so I think there would have been plenty of help, think I am going to have to take a trip to the archives. or rip my hair out

PatinCyprus

PatinCyprus Report 24 Sep 2018 14:35

They both have Williams as MMN on GRO

What about mother not coping with 2 babies and gave one away, given a new name that's why he can't be found.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 23 Sep 2018 14:39

that's the problem there is no death record anywhere

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 23 Sep 2018 05:15

James was not necessarily alive on 21 June, as the certificate only records that he had been born.
I have known births and deaths recorded at the same time, when a child is sickly at birth.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth Report 23 Sep 2018 02:01

back on my search for James,
I have the birth certs . Edith Mary was born at 8.30 a.m and James at 8.50 on the
14th of May . There births were registered on the 21st June.so he was alive for 6wks
Any ideas were I might find christening records to see if they might have changed his name or if he lived long enough to be christened

I think you need to see James birth cert to be sure of his parents.
If you have Edith's it should say if she is a twin

Mike ..............

I also wondered that ......... but, even so, we should still be able to find him either alive or dead.

Unless your theory is correct, and his forename was changed after registration but before baptism so he was no longer James .............. which does happen!

The Registrar is supposed to be informed when that happens so that an amendment can be made, but people rarely do it.

Mike * Report 29 Jun 2015 13:38

Just wondering if you have seen the 2 birth certs for the "twins"?

As the 1911 census gives 7 children born, none died and they are all accounted for... could Edith and James be cousins , registered on same day perhaps ?
