Can anyone help.

My mothers maiden name is TWINNING

We have heard differing Stories / Rumours that their might be a distant link with the TEA COMPANY.

One such story, was that their was 2 brothers. One brother was happy to look after the business while the other we are led to believe was a Gambler and Womaniser. The story goes on to say that the brother who looked after the business offered to pay his brothers debts, but that their was a stipulation that he would have no more to do with the business, also that he was forced to change the spelling of his surname. How true this story is we do not know, sounds interesting though.

The only way to tell if the family ties up is to follow your mums side backwards to see where it leads

No one can help you without names. Sorry

Was you Mother's mum's maiden name Griffiths?

If so.........I am not seeing any male births registered in England or Wales for Twining/Griffiths or Twinning/Griffiths.

Actually there is one Twinning/Griffiths male birth registered in Cheltenham in 1943.

Having said that......It's probably not your Mother's brothers you are referring to.

Ignore stories until they can be verified...................research is the way to do that.

If you need help.............give names, dates and location

Sometimes people latch onto a name and make assumptions.

OH has a family name of Barnard. He had always been told they originally came from Barnard Castle in Durham. Err no, at least not in surviving records.

Trace back from your family, and forward from Thomas Twining c1675 and see where it takes you ;-)
