The stone delver as a job is a good connection as the Gill family are a long line of stonemasons looks like the Pearson sons have done that as a job to

Can't see anything for her on line at the moment, but will keep searching

You'd probably need to visit the County Records Office

So really if Godfrey took Hannahs (Gill) name because his mother had him n Mary when she wasn't married does that mean that the start of my Gill line is from Hannah by blood so really were not gills lol sorry if that's a bit confusing haha

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 5 Aug 2015 14:42

Unfortunately, I can't find a baptism for Godfrey

............perhaps it's on Ancestry, under the West Yorks records.

Looks like Hannah Gill was Godfrey's mother and she had Godfrey before she married James Pearson. Godfrey kept his own surname (at least for official documents like marriage certificate), but thought of James Pearson as his father rather than a step-father.

EDIT - Jaqcueline has already posted Godfrey's death.

Jacqueline Report 5 Aug 2015 14:38

Godfrey was either illegitimate, or his mother had been married before

IF, however, she had been, she'd have told him his father's name.........so illegitimate is really the answer

Adelle

Adelle Report 5 Aug 2015 14:38

Do you think Hannah was godfreys sister mayb I should look for the youngest record of Hannah gill
