Maybe they ended up in Scotland. Maybe they are nothing to do with 'Maisie' !

No idea if this is relevant......but it's the only possible connection I can find.

I notice that the Miller children's births were registered in Medway, Kent.

Working on the assumption that Edith Blackman didn't actually marry Arthur Stevens!

There is a birth registered for an Edith Eliza Blackman in Medway...

Edith Eliza Blackman in the England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915
Name:Edith Eliza Blackman
Registration Year:1879
Registration Quarter:Apr-May-Jun
Registration district:Medway
Inferred County:Kent
Volume:2a
Page:4890

The 1881 and 1891 census state that she was born in Rochester, Kent with Mother Maria.

The 1901 states she was born in Chatham, Kent........She is a servant.

She appears to have married in 1908

??
Marriages Jun 1908 (>99%)
Blackman Edith Eliza Medway 2a 1317
Weir George Medway 2a 1317

I can't spot an Edith Eliza Weir on the 1911 census though.

Possibly no connection.........but I thought I would post it anyway.

Speculating.......Perhaps when her family found out she was pregnant, they packed her off to Portsmouth to have the baby......and she stayed in the lodging house with Mary Collis?

Edit: Found the 1911 census, although it gives her birth year as 1885

Edith Eliza Weir in the 1911 England Census

Birth Place: Rochester, Kent, England

Edith Eliza Weir 26 Married 3 years.....1 child born and living
George Weir 3 months Son.....born Malta

but i have no connection to Stevens or Blackman unless they were neighbours at sometime.
1922 news cutting "Man's Letter Tells of Double Tragedy. Couple Found Lifeless in the House. I have gone mad and killed my wife She was one of the best. lam going to end it, too." This message, sent to the Portsmouth police by John Pulling, 21 Leonard Road, Landport,"

Yes, I was wondering if there was a connection with either of Maisie's adoptive parents families ie Miller & Vincent; I noted that Sarah Jane's occupation on 1911 census was 'tailoring naval'. ... might just be clutching at straws!

Well Edith isn't at the same address in 1911

According to the 1901 census that address seems to be a lodging house

before i got full birth certificate looking at the census living with Sarah Jane (Crowley) and Charles Vincent in Medway was Rebbeca Crowley listed as mother who was born in gosport married to Jonathan Vincent and there second child was born 1848 in portsea i wondered if there was going to be some link there or if its a naval town connection. seemed like a long way to go to leave a baby on a strangers doorstep not sure i fully believe that story

There doesn't seem to be a marriage ,unless it was in Scotland .

Louise

Louise Report 26 Nov 2015 08:20

yes i have some knowledge of Miller and Vincent as adoptive family and original short certificate that was passed down through family so i know i have the correct entry. have just got full birth certificate and birth parents names what i know nothing of is any Blackman and Stevens connections what happened to them and any aunts and cousins that i might be missing.i dont know where to go next as i cant seem to track either of them with any evidence that im on the right track, i have no dates other than the birth of child no other places of birth and no confirmation that they were ever married.

So Maisie is showing as adopted daughter in 1911 of Charles and Sarah Jane Miller do you already have a copy of this census?
