I do think that we need the poster to come back and answer some questions for us.

It would be helpful to know

Was George married to Philip's mother?

Was George a widower or divorced at the time of his second marriage?

Do you know where George's parents married?

Have you found either of them on census records before 1891?

Who were the witnesses at your parents' marriage?

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 25 Feb 2016 18:06

Are you in contact with any of George's siblings families?

This looks like his brother Leonard in 1939

A PM from Ann last week........she told me that on her fathers marriage cert to Violet M Tyler in 1962.......it stated that her father George H Ward was divorced.

Hopefully, Ann will return to answer some questions.

Hello everyone, just reading through the threads so much to take in....My mother and fathers marriage certificate says my father was divorced when they married.my mother seems to think that Philip married a girl called cathy in the late 60s she was having a baby and Philip said he would keep in touch with my father and let him know if the baby was a boy or girl but he never did mom tried to find Philip to let him know that dad had passed away but with no luck. In the early 90s there was a note left on dads grave saying sorry dad love Philip. Not sure what is first wife's name was, mom said dad called her Phil for short it could be Phyllis, Philippa or something similar. if that helps x

The problem with the 1907 Aston marriage is that one male name is missing but neither female is Annie

There is a marriage of a Philip G to a Catherine in 1968 in Birmingham. Do you think this is too early?

Rambling

Rambling Report 25 Feb 2016 22:32

Rootgatherer I was looking at that one but couldn't see a corresponding marriage to that Philip's mother, at least not in her maiden name.

But does look as if Philip and Catherine had a child 1969, so that might tie in? and/or child 1970?

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 25 Feb 2016 22:43

Ah! Also a Philip L who married a Kathleen in 1971.

Now the possible birth in 1949 gives mmn as Baxter. I can't see a Baxter marriage to a Ward.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 25 Feb 2016 22:44

Rose, I think the mother must have been married before and that's why be can't tie in his birth.

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 25 Feb 2016 22:52

Ann, the 1911 census says They have been married 14 years (I.e. 1897) and had 11 children 7 of whom are still living. It doesn't give a place of marriage.
