Anthony has read my message.

I've had a crashing computer and have just come here on a loaner, so I don't know when it was read in the last 24 hours, but unless it was in the last few minutes and Anthony is reading as I type, I guess we aren't worth acknowledging.

Or maybe his computer crashed too. :-D

If Norman was the son of Richard Hill and Maria Waring- this is the birth on Lancs BMD:

HILL Norman Blackpool A Blackpool WARING BLKA/37/73

1891- 1911 his father Richard is a photographer (not a labourer as stated on his marriage to Dorothy).

I also wondered if Dorothy had a child before her marriage?

Thanks Joonie. I was thinking the same thing and had decided to do likewise if Anthony hadn't acknowledged the efforts by this morning :-)

I suppose this time around somebody should point out to Anthony that people are trying to help him and he should return to threads that he posts ...

so I will send a PM

Anthony, do you know of any brothers or sisters that Dorothy may have had?

Also, like most of the other helpers I'd be interested to know how you know that Dorothy was born in Pateley Bridge?

Thanks.

Yes, you did indeed suggest that scenario Joonie. I think I had forgotten as I felt we were leaning towards the Doris 1905 and my gut feeling was that she was a different person and was busy trying to prove that. My apologies Joonie.

I think Mary's suggestion about the second marriage certificate may help. It would be interested to see her stated age on that.

So far we have her birth as 20 May 1909, 20 May 1910 and aged 20 on her marriage certificate in August 1927!!!!!!

rootgatherer 'It's beginning to look like her birth was registered under her mother's surname but as an adult she knew and used her father's surname.'

yes, one of the several common scenarios for 'father's name' on marriage certificates that I mentioned early on :-)

and of course I had posted all the Robert William Ingleby birth to death info, except hadn't got the 1911 safc found (silly me, I looked for Dorothy in that census by initials!)

problem with Dorothy is there seems to be no birth that fits Dorothy's stated names/dob under any surname ...

Mary

Mary Report 3 May 2016 13:32

So not Robert William Ingleby 1881 then.

The Willis name seems to crop up in other families.

Willis Ingleby 1845 Ripon area parents John 1809 and Alice.

1881 Royal Oak Grewelthorpe Yorkshire d2>6
Willis Ingleby born laverton a farmer and Innkeeper.

Well found safc.

As we haven't found Dorothy Evelyn on the 1911 census using the surname Ingleby, I wondering what evidence Anthony has of her birthplace.

It's beginning to look like her birth was registered under her mother's surname but as an adult she knew and used her father's surname.

In 1939 he's in The Retreat and it says he's single.

I think I looked for him already in 1911 Mary but couldn't find him. I'll try again.

Mary

Mary Report 3 May 2016 11:56

Can anyone find Robert William Ingleby in 1911 he was born Pateley Bridge O/N/D 1881 V9a P60 parents Robert 1834-1911 and Mary Jane nee Tennant.

1901 Robert W is in Sunderland something to do with Architect.
No sign 1911 he died in York in 1956 V2d P959

A tree has him on Ancestry, says he died at The Retreat in York (seems to be a kind of mental hospital)probate to his sister and he was buried with them I think.

I'am just trying to rule him out.

Well done Mary! That surely confirms that Doris and Dorothy Evelyn are not one and the same :-)

She was living as Farrer before her marriage? Just wondering why she'd marry in Cheltenham? Do you have this certificate Anthony?

Marriages Mar 1973
FARRER DOROTHY E FARRER CHELTENHAM 7B 681
FARRER LESLIE FARRER CHELTENHAM 7B 681
FARRER LESLIE HILL CHELTENHAM 7B 681
HILL DOROTHY E FARRER CHELTENHAM 7B 681
---------------------------------------------------

Probably coincidence- these people appear together on other electoral registers (Dorothy without an E middle name, and Leslie with a J middle name)

London, England, Electoral Registers, 1952

20 Hyde Park Place Paddington, Westminster
Dorothy E Farrer
Leslie Farrer

Looks to be a large shared residence- about 20 people listed

EDIT: Not the right couple- found marriage of Leslie J Farrer and Dorothy Jenner in Kensington 1938
----------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing that's bugging me- how do you know she was born in Pateley Bridge?

JoonieCloonie

Maybe this time Anthony will come back to his thread instead of just ignoring what people did and starting over again, again.

Gee

Gee Report 2 May 2016 20:43

I guess the only way to find out is to buy the birth certificate!

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 2 May 2016 20:07

Not sure if I'm getting confused Gins (some would say nothing new there lol) but I thought the favoured birth was for Doris daughter of Robert Henry which is this birth

Dec 1905
Ingleby Doris Keighley 9a 169

I just think that Dorothy Evelyn was celebrating her birth on 20 May and it's her age that is in doubt.

It may be, as Mary has suggested, that the second marriage certificate may give different details for her father.

Gee

Gee Report 2 May 2016 19:38

RG, no need for an apology :-)

I don't understand. If she was born in May (whatever year) she wouldn't have been registered from Oct - December

I am asking in case I've missed something :-S
