Curiously the twins are registered on different pages:

Births Sep 1911 (>99%)
Kent Mary E Barnes Birmingham 6d 278

Births Sep 1911 (>99%)
Kent John H Barnes Birmingham 6d 277

Not so very unusual Margaret - If one was the last entry on the page then the other would be the first on the next page.

Also, the fact that Mary Ellen's birth cert shows a time of birth also seems to show that she was one of twins - the times were added in case of inheritance disputes.

Mary Ellen & John Henry (?) Kent (Twins) born birmingham UK 16/06/1911

the twins can not be on the 1911 census as the census was taken

1911 Census of England and Wales was taken on the night of Sunday, 2 April 1911.

on the 1901 census mary and john are not twins and they are johns and his first wife children

the 1921 census has not been released yet

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 17 May 2016 08:47

The twins wouldn't appear on electoral registers in 1921 as they weren't old enough to vote.

John and Maria appear together on Electoral registers in 1920 at 6 Clifton Grove, Bellbarn Road. 1922 Maria appears alone. I suspect this is John's death in 1921:

Death:
First name(s) JOHN
Last name KENT
Gender Male
Birth year 1862
Age 59
Death quarter 1
Death year 1921
District KINGS NORTON
County Worcestershire
Volume 6D Page 92
Country England
-----------------------------------------------

The 1901 census at Blythe street appears to be the correct couple- the children on that census are John's children from his first wife Mary. (John Anthony and Mary Alice). If you read through this thread all the information is there.

I think I am getting the hang of it now ( yeh right who are you fooling).
Now I have the following questions :
1) What happened to Mary Alice Kent 1886, last shown on the 1901 census as apprentice dressmaker ?
2) John Anthony (Eaton) Kent, is this him getting married 1914 to Mary Mead 21.10.1914 in Cambridge ? brides fathers name Job Mead, grooms fathers name Henry Kent ???
3) The Grundy family shown on both the 1881 & 1901 census how are they related to Mary Kent (nee. Eaton) ?

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 18 May 2016 20:04

answer to q.3- Jane Grundy (wife of George) on 1881 & 1901 census was Mary Eaton's sister.

This is her marriage:

Name: George Grundy
Gender: Male
Father's name: Thomas Grundy
Spouse's Name: Jane Eaton
Spouse's Age: 19
Spouse's Father's Name: Anthony Eaton
Marriage Date: 27 Jan 1873
Marriage Place: Longton, Staffordshire, England

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 18 May 2016 20:21

question 2- don't think that's the correct marriage- John Anthony (Eaton) Kent's father was John (not Henry).- Also on passenger list in 1924 form Southampton to Venezula he is listed as single.

AustinQ

AustinQ Report 18 May 2016 20:34

Re question 1: In an earlier post on this thread you wrote:

"...family legend says "Johnny & Tolly" who where sent away (USA ? )when the mum died and then dad remarried..."

John Anthony did indeed travel to the US- Perhaps Mary did too? I have an Aunt Mary that is known to us as Polly, which I understand is not uncommon (especially in Scotland?) do you think that 'Tolly' is perhaps Polly (Mary Alice)?

Yes, it's a possible marriage for John Anthony to Anna in 1925- I think it's possible he did return to the UK to marry (but you would need the marriage certificate to confirm it is him).

Looks like he continued travelling after the marriage- he's listed below in 1929, travelling with an Anna G Kent- she's a bit older than him:

UK, Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960
Name: John A eaton Kent
Birth Date: abt 1889
Age: 40
Profession: Vice Consul
Last country of permanent residence: Venesuela
Port of Departure: Port Limón, Costa Rica
Arrival Date: 8 May 1929
Port of Arrival: Plymouth, England
Ship Name: Orinoco
Shipping line: Hamburg-American Line
Official Number: 7067

travelling with Anna G Kent 55
