Thank you Dea and AustinQ your suggestions that Thomas and Julia married in the US have proved to be correct,

Thomas is featured in a book Prominent Men of Scranton, and it says he married Julia Otoole 11 May 1879.

The 1880 census for Thomas and Julia in column 12 says they were married in the census year.

Thomas' passport application 1907 says he went to the US from Liverpool, sailing on the 'Brooklyn' in 21 Sept 1872.

Is that the immigration record your cousin has?

I was thinking the same Dea.

For reference, on Julia's death certificate it says parents were John O'toole and Mary Carson

It says on the 1901 abobe that immigration year was 1872 and that they were married in 1880 - wouldn't the marriage therefore be in USA ?
