My question I am struggling to answer is - who is the father/mother of James 1791.

James Armistead 1791 was from Whittington, Kirby Lonsdale, Lancashire, England.

I have his parentage as James Armistead and Ellin Bailiff but believe this to be wrong unless anyone is able to show me concrete proof. Many thanks

if james was born in 1791 then james and ellen could not be his parents
this james was christened in 1789

Ages on census were often approximate. Is that were 'born 1791' came from?
The ordinary man in street/field/mill etc wasn't too concerned about the exact year they were born.
