I have been searching many years for the birth of my gran without success. Couldn't find any link with Grimsby where she was supposedly born. Found today that they lived at 24 Dover street Grimsby Southwest west ward. Even though there is no record od her birth ? could she still have been registered in Grimsby but for some reason the records went' sent on to Somerset house. Any advise how I can pursue further x Linda

Hi, I have all details of my gran, Bap cert, marriage cert. I have copies of all her sisters and brothers birth cert, but can find no trace of a birth being registerd for my gran Jessie Louisa Churchyard. We always knew she was supposedly born Grimsby 1894 and only just this week found proof they did live in Grimsby. Just trying to find if her birth was registered in Grimsby but maybe the registers went sent on to Somerset house

Jolly good Linda, was just trying to get info. on here, for helpers.

Things no longer at Somerset House, went to Family Records Centre, Islington (where we used to search big 'green heavy register') now no longer there either, closed some years ago. Think they went to Kew.

You can now search by Mother Maiden Name on below...

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/login.asp

(nothing 'jumped out' though)

Chris :)

Edits (that long ago I now think the green one was Marriages, lol)

Linda,

Even though no birth shows in the indexes its maybe worth contacting the GRO to ask if it can be found in their records,,,a fair few % of events somehow missed being indexed.

it may even be indexed but been mistranscribed.!

I tried GRO years ago but they couldn't find anything, wonder if its worth another try . Cheers, Linda

I have noticed that the school record for James Frederick.

Admission date----18/5/1896.

last attended 12/2/1897.

20/2/1897--left the town.

Jessie would have been 3 ,perhaps she was a foster child.?

Linda

Linda Report 11 Jan 2017 13:59

Don't think she was fostered as she looked too much like her sisters and brothers ?.
