Hi This is sideways on my tree but it's got me I have a Sarah Bullimore married to a Benjamin Brittain . They had a few children not sure how many but in the 1841 census they had
Speechley Brittain 15 <<
James "" 15 <<
Robert 10
Joseph 10
Harriot 7
Benjamin 5

I have seen a Marriage for a Speechley John and censuses 51/61 for him
My problem is I can't find a birth for Speechley or James
someone has got them as the same person? and living in Australia and dying there but every thing is down as James
Can anyone find anything out to prove if it is one or two people ??
They were born in Leverington Cambridgeshire

Thank you for finding Sheepley John's birth so with that their should be a birth for James
Marriage is the right one and yes Robert went to Australia and James ?? if we can prove he did every thing I've seen on this other tree is for James but doesn't say when he went
I have censuses for Speechley until 1881 when he was a widow

Thing is on the 1841 census they rounded the childrens ages up to the nearest 5 years. Thats why you get what you think at first is twins.

My great gran on the 1841 census has three children all the same age.

As you can see from both baptisms they were definately two people born two years apart.

Mel

The ages of people over the age of 15 on the 1841 Census are usually rounded DOWN to the nearest 5

Some enumerators did not do that, ju7st to confuse matters ............. but you can usually tell if all ages 15 and above end in either 0 or 5.

This means that a person who is shown as 15 on the 1841 is actually between the ages of 15 and 19. Put another way ............... someone who is 15 on that census could have been born between 1822 and 1826.
