According to Ellis Island records a Barnett Moore (born Russia Malawa) aged 21 left Liverpool for New York in1907. The ships manifest stated his last permanent address was Liverpool and his contact was his brother J Moore of 140 or149 Smithdown or Southdown Rd. Address in NY was 225 Monroe St.
Russians had to stay in Liverpool for a minimum of 5 days before onward transfer to the US.
Any ideas on the following .
If Barnett had only been in Liverpool for 5 days would that count as a permanent address ?
Can anyone see him entering the UK or where he went in US ? I have looked and come up with nothing. Maybe a name change .
What happened to J Moore and what did J stand for ?
I know about Barnett Moore born 1910 Wallasey and Barnett c1937 NY. These are my husband's Uncle and cousin .
Given the name and country of birth of Barnett c1886 we wonder if this could be my husband's grandfather's brother and would like to try and track what happened to him.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thank you MargaretM. Don't know who Toby is but I'll try and find him on US census.

KathleenBell Report 16 Feb 2017 16:02

Looks like Toby was female, also from Russia:-

1920 US Census Transcription

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Gender Age Birth year Birth place

Louis Soloman Self Married Male 65 1855 Russia
Toby Soloman Wife Married Female 65 1855 Russia

The address on the image looks like Monroe Street.

Louis immigrated to the United States in 1902 and Toby in 1913.

Neither could read or write.

*****EDIT - Just realised that this can't be the same Toby as she didn't arrive in USA until 1913.

Good find ArgyllGran.
Brooklyn would be a good area as my husband's grandfather Charles Mark Moore did a runner in 1917 and lived in Brooklyn with his 3rd (bigamous) wife.

Thank you so much ArgyllGran and Maddie.
Can't believe I haven't found these.
All I need now is to find a record of Barnett's father's name.
According to the 3 marriage certificates I have for Charles Mark his could be , Charles Mark, James or just Charles.
I will look more into the details you have sent.

Have found a member with an Irving in his tree. Have sent e-mail and I hope I get a reply.
Did find a death entry for a Barney that seems to fit with the census records above but it states father's name as Solomon. Doesn't fit with my other info. for Charles though .Coincidence that it is Solomon !
Will keep looking.
