There is a 6 week period allowed to register a child's birth, so if John S was born in July as per 1939 register, then a registration in the September Quarter would fit. Later in July and it's possible you might find the registration in the later December Quarter

This would appear to be John Joseph's birth with the Mother's maiden name given. This is a relatively new site and gives mmn from date registration first started in 1837 through to 1915. On other sites (freebmd or commercial) mmn only shows from late 1911 onwards

Marriage certificates will give ages and the names and occupations of Father's of the couple.

Deaths are hopefully registered by a relative.

There are 3 Joseph Wainwright births in Sheffield a year either side of the year shown on the 1891 census for Joseph. If he said he was 31 when the 1891 census was taken them 1891-31 = 1860, but is more likely to be 1859. Ages often altered by a year or so over time too. This is where his marriage certificate could come in useful - find on later census and see who Father is.

Believe John Joseph was originally a Cabinet maker, but later in life had a cafe/shop in High Hazels Park. Lived in Darnell Sheffield, at 19 Gladstone Street, So it is not the one mentioned as a Landlord of a Attercliffe Pub.
Now I have his wife's name, Edith, hope to get his parents names if possible.
