Going back that far I've found some major errors in the transcripts - the registers often recorded all BMD events by year, and a number I've checked have been mis-transcibed under the wrong category. Understandable, looking at the original registers and the headings, not always clear when they stopped recording marriages and moved onto burials (or christenings for that matter).

Most of mine were in Cartmel (Lancashire) and many of the original registers are available for checking - have you checked if the records you require are available to view? I would think it unlikely that both died and were buried together - so maybe a marriage, or one of them died but it mentioned the other?

The baptism record wouldn't normally give the mother's maiden name if the parents were married so perhaps they weren't.
