Now I am looking for the death of his wife Frances/Fanny Winterhalden. It will be post 1881 because she's in that census with two of their children.

Bright eyes on this one, please.

EDIT No this is a different man. With his father, Augustin and brothers in 1851. They are all clockmakers born in Germany?

Sorry I think I may have mislead everyone. The 1891 posted above does seem to be them, so that would make the death found for Fanny very possible.

After seeing what appears to be the correct census in 1861 for them, naming Zaccheus as William it is possible.

The 1851 I found for William is this one. All brothers not father and sons.

Nicola'S Report 5 Jun 2017 13:18

His DC has arrived and there was an inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death.
His address at the time of death was 272 Whitechapel Road, East [London]. He died on 18th April 1895 in the Sick Asylum, Cleveland Street, Pancras district, London.

The inquest was held on 20th April, the coroner was George Danford Thomas.

Can someone see the newspaper report on the inquest, please?

The only thing I'm finding for that date is reports of a well dressed man being found cut in half in a railway tunnel. No name is given.

I don't know London at all but Cleveland Street seems to be near Portland Station. I assume Portland Station would be near to where the underground is now? I am probably way off here.

You say he died in the Sick Asylum, Cleveland Street, Pancras district, London so it can't possibly your man.

Other London Underground stations located near Cleveland Street include Great Portland Street (50m west) and Warren Street (350m east).

EDIT the tunnel was going towards Baker Street and the body was taken to Marylebone Mortuary, Paddington to await an inquest and identification.

Another report states he was about 32.

Cleveland Street Asylum registers of admission and discharge, 1875-1915 appear to be in the London Metropolitan Archives.

I wonder if they would contain anything about reason for admission?

Nicola'S Report 29 Jun 2017 14:45

On behalf of my friend whose GGF is the wonderfully named ZACCHEUS WINTERHALDEN as above, we are still searching and hoping for a report of the inquest into his Accidental Death.

There are other family circumstances which may be revealed if we could only find this report. Since he died in London [see my post above for details of his address and also place of death], we are so hoping that it may have been reported in a London newspaper. Although having said that, my own illustrious ancestor's death and lengthy obituary was published in Scotland even though he died in Central London and was buried at Highgate Cemetery. So perhaps we should cast our search wider afield?? But I don't know how to go about that.

PLEASE could you have another look for this inquest report for us. And please bear in mind that the spelling of both his first name and surname have 'altered' over the years ...................

Thank you very much.
