Thomas Allen senior c1785 - 1865 was born in Newport IOW he married Maria Parsons 29th March 1808. Their children were:-

Thomas's youngest son Edmund went under the names of Edward/ Edwin and Edmond/ Edmund.

This one is a bricklayers labourer born in Ryde, I o W. He has a wife though

Ok I'm very confused. I thought Thomas was born in Surrey not on the Isle of Wight and he is definitely down as Edmund on the 1861. I think you're correct in saying he's meant to be Thomas but why write Edmund?

The older Edmund in the 1861 census is actually Thomas as he is born the right year.
