If in England and Wales, you can find mother's maiden name by looking on the new GRO Index. You have to register with the site but it is free ..............

I'm looking for the Maiden name of a woman named Sarah, she married a man named John Shepherd and had 5 children with him, Margaret, John, Jane, Edith and Sarah. She was born in about 1873 but I'm unsure as to where she was born.
