Hi I'm looking for Joseph Whitehouse. married to Ellen Golding. Born in England around 1800-1820. In 1867 they were residing in Hokitika New Zealand. Thank you Erica Brooks.

Not sure when they went to New Zealand but their daughter Olive Whitehouse was married in Hokitika 1867. Yes his daughter Louisa was married to John Peake. John Peake raised my grandmother when her parents died.

I don't know when Joseph Whitehouse died unfortunately. Don't even know where he was born.

I also found most of that last night, but I discarded it after looking at Joseph's probate which showed that he died at 3 Clerkenwell Street in Middlesex, because Erica said he was alive in NZ in 1867, and that his wife was Ellen Golding not Eleanor Holden!

Another example of don't believe all family stories!!!


FWIW ...... Charles Eardley Whitehouse, one of Joseph's children, was granted Letters of Administration for the personal estate and effects of his father. Estate under £300

Many thanks Chris. I am trying to absorb it all. I could be wrong about Joseph White House, I have him as parent of Olive Leman Whitehouse With Ellen Golding being her mother. I have no proof he was in New Zealand I just assumed he was at her wedding in1867. I had been told over the years some of our family were Jewish so believed the name Golding. I find myself inadequate in operating some of these sites so it is slow progress. thanks again Erica
