Linda was born in Preston 1942 and her mother listed as nee Barrett. She had 3 siblings. Valerie Joan 1946, Jack, 1947 and Peter 1948. All born in Preston Lancashire but who were their parents as I can't find a marriage between a Hill and a Barrett.
Would be grateful of any help.

Agree with Shirley. You will need a birth cert to check.

Bearing in mind it was wartime, the marriage might have been out of the area.

Both Linda (1942) and Jack (1947) were born in the Fulwood area of Preston which is where there was / is a large Barracks,

I wonder if he was in the army which might also explain the long gap between Linda in 1942 and the next children - Valerie ('46), Jack ('47) and Peter (48) who all come in fairly quick succession ?

FULLWOOD BARRACKS

Fulwood Barracks is a military installation at Fulwood in Preston, Lancashire, England.
The Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and the East Lancashire Regiment both returned to the barracks shortly after the Second
World War.[1] The barracks, which went on to become the regional centre for infantry training as the Lancastrian Brigade Depot
in 1960,[4] became the depot of the Queen's Lancashire Regiment in 1970 as well as Headquarters North West District in 1977
and then the headquarters of 42 (North West) Brigade in 1991.[5] The keep, and 15 other buildings and structures in the barracks,
are Grade II listed buildings.[6][7]

What is your connection to these people please?

From your comment on another thread, you seem to think that Linda married a John James Masterson. If that is correct, then she is showing on the ERs for Preston until 20014. Can you not make contact and ask who her parents were?

Valerie is on the Preston ERs till 2007 when she may have opted out.

A John James Masterson died 22/10/14, (according to probate granted 25/8/16 at Newcastle), but I don't seem to be able to find an obituary notice to see if this is the correct person.

Try googling the address from the 2014 see if it has been sold recently.

Thanks all for your information. All options will be tried.

Thanks
Dea for the information on Fulwood.
There were 2 main hospitals with maternity wards in Preston at the time. One was Preston Royal Infirmary and the other was Sharoe Green Hospital in Fulwood Preston. The only other was a private one in Mount Street, Preston run by nuns. My own son was born in Sharoe Green but that was my choice

Sorry Flip but that isn't my John James Masterson. Mine was born in 1946 possibly Preston and died in 1999 in Preston. The death records on GR show him born in 1946 but doesn't show records of his birth so I'm only guessing he was born in Preston.

Thanks again everyone for your help
