Can someone advise me please? I don't have worldwide Ancestry so can't check this out for myself.
My mother's cousin Joan Powell was born in Ontario in late 1920's. Her parents (unmarried) were Denis Powell and Sarah Alice Haselden.
It has come to light that there was a previous child born to this mother. (It states this on Joan's birth cert).
Does anyone know if it's possible to check Canadian births with this info?
Many thanks x

Unfortunately Ontario births on Ancestry only go up to 1913.

Could this be Sarah Alice's arrival in Canada? She gives mother's name as Mrs. Sarah Haselden, 4 Fair View, Billinge nr. Wigan. She's going to brother-in-law Mr. W. Pilkington, 102 Holman St., London, Ontario.

Margaret, I really appreciate your efforts, but I have to tell you I already know a lot about Sarah. It's just the birth I was after. Thanks though! x

I don't understand. You say you have Joan's birth certificate but you only say that she was born late 1920's, no actual date of birth. You also say that the birth certificate states that there was a previous child born to Sarah Alice. I've never seen that info on a birth certificate. She only had 7 month old Joan with her when she returned to England. This Joan would have been born 1932.

Apologies, I saw the birth cert which her sister has, but do not have a copy myself and forgot to note the exact year. I was only giving a guide though. It says 2 children born to the mother - there is a section asking this.

It could be the other child was stillborn or died as a baby

She is only traveling with a young baby so that indicates older child had passed away

Don't think the record would be online

Ancestry has Ontario deaths up to 1947 but I couldn't see a death for a Haselden or Powell in the right time frame.

I think Ont births are closed to the general public for 97y. They will be available to close family members - but I'm not clear who qualifies as close.

The census is closed for 92 y. I think nominal census day was 1/6/1931, so 1931 will be released in 6 years time, but it'll be the end of 2023 before it's transcribed, indexed and online,, I guess.
