Looking at this site it would appear you can order but the records prior to 1924 are not available online. There is a link to follow to order.

https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/civil-records/help/i-want-to-get-a-copy-of-a-certificate-what-do-i-do

1.If you would like to request a photocopy of the Birth/Marriage/Civil Partnership/Death entry (for genealogy and research purposes),

A photocopy of an entry in any register can be purchased from the General Register Office by downloading the form here and submitting it by fax or post as outlined on the form, or
The General Register Office also operates a research facility at Werburgh Street, Dublin 2 where members of the public may search the indexes to the registers held by General Register Office and purchase photocopies of entries in the registers. See Research page.

2.Options to purchase an official certificate

A certificate can be purchased online on the official Civil Registration Service website at www.certificates.ie
(Death records before 1924 and marriage records before 1903 are not currently available online), or
A certificate of an entry in any register, regardless of the year involved, can be purchased from the General Register Office by fax or post by completing the relevant application form which can be downloaded at Apply for Certificates. Click here for link to Apply for Certificates page.

I've checked rootsireland and the 1872 is not showing :-(

Ive just checked the Irish GRO and it looks like I can't order a death certificate before 1921????

Is that right?

Thanks for the help

The daughters of Ellen were Susan 1841c & Mary 1839c born Cavan. Mary married James Riley and Susan married John Flanagan (I've got everything on these except a defo baptisim)

Those deaths for Edward Hartin look promising, thank you. If he died in 1872 that would make sense. Maybe Ellen came to England to be with her family and that's why the 1871 census is not showing for her?

Mary, that tree is my cousins but not sure how accurate the birth info is?

Mary

Mary Report 24 Aug 2017 13:26

1871 30,White Croft Sheffield
James Riley labourer born @ 1838 Cavan Ireland
Mary 1838 Roscommon Ireland

A tree on ancestry say this is Mary Hartin 1838-1911 and James Riley 1838-1881 married @ 1862 Ireland.says she had half sister Susanna born Roscommon 1841-1891 Sheffield.

Edward Harten born 1800 died 1872 in Cavan Ireland

In 1881, Elizabeth and Catherine Charlton are at 98 Hollis Croft.
No 6 is uninhabited.

Looking for 1871 . . .

Hmmm -

the census isn't easy to follow in 1871 re Hollis Croft.

However, it's no help re J Riley - at 98 are Philip & Mary O'Brien.
I can't find no 6, unfortunately - though maybe it's not in the expected sequence.

Thanks. I should have been more specific and asked for the 1871 census - sorry

She could have been visiting but the death certificate might tell me more info when that arrives next week

Fingers crossed!
