The name will have been spelled in whatever way the person writing it thought it should be spelled.

In addition, Robert's parents may have been illiterate, and not known how to spell their name.

The Robert Joseph McCune who died in Brighton 1943 was aged 50 so b c 1893 -
probably showing on 1939 register as 24.8.1893

I have been looking for robert on census after 1881 he was in childrens home in hampshire cant find him after 1881 this is the posting i have the name on bdm is spelt mcCune mother is areana
