Molyneux Thomas 69 yrs Peticoat Lane, Ince 20-Dec 1880 Miner C 973 * C of E

Wigan cemtery opened in 1856 and was the first municipal cemetery - Ince opened the next year, just across the road.
They both record date of burial, not d.o.death. Thos is buried in a common grave, along with 20 other seemingly unrelated people.

Island Row, off Petticoat Lane, Higher Ince
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1335069
with a descripti of the former houses.
[If you check the inset map, there are 2 yellow roads running from this pic to NE.
Petticoat Lane is the left one, and Thos probably lived some way up this.
The blue grid lines are 1 km apart.
Abt 700m W of pic is St William's RC church - no spire nor tower, so just marked with a +
Abt 1km WSW of pic is Christ Church, Ince - it has a spire, so the + is on top of a blob.
At top of page, there's a navigating square - click on W and 1.5km W of pic is St Cattherine's, Scholes - Manchester Rd would run into it if it didn't jog S just before hitting it.
Alternatively, if I were to click on SE from pic, I'ld see St Peter's, Hindley at the cross roads, again with a spire. It used to be just across the road from the Bird ith' Hand, but I don't know if this pub still exists - it's 50y since my last visit.
Just to clarify, Hindley subdistrict included Ince. This remained true even after the 1930s, when Ince became an RD.]

Thanks mgnv. I had spotted most of what you have posted and Wigan is fortunate to have such good online records for their cemeteries.

Yes the Bird is still there - as is St. Peter's. I will pm you. Cx
