I have a copy of a birth registration certificate that Shows that the person born is illegitimate, But on the left hand side in a note place there is quote Paternity of the child found by decree of courts see registration of (Consulto )Volume 1 page 117 April first 1884..

Can any one tell me where this information is kept and how I can access it.

Thank you for any consideration.

It coold mean that the childs birth surname was re-registered into that of the fathers surname and that the certificate was re-issued and contained the fathers name.

Did this take place in the UK.?

Jack,
Did you purchase the birth cert from Scotland's People?

The Register of Corrected Entries (RCE) is attached to the cert and is indicated by that stamp.

Return to your purchase item on SP and you should find the link to the RCE .

If there is a stamp on the left hand margin of any certificate, ( birth, death or marriage) it indicates that an RCE was issued.

An RCE cannot be obtained from SP on it's own.
It is attached to the original cert and is downloaded from there.

A new certificate is never issued.
The RCE is issued to amend the original document.
