GRO Reference: 1906 S Quarter in ASHTON-UNDER-LYNE Volume 08D Page 400

Joseph Henry's death registered same quarter as his birth. It's not showing on GRO but you can see it on Freebmd. Thomas's death also showing on Freebmd.

First World War records for James are on FMP , lots of info, incl death cert sadly for son George, confirmation of Charity Ellen as wife and Bertha's birth date. etc

It appears that he deserted in Aug'1918 and was sent under escort to Southampton for embarkation to France in Sept' but disappeared again as no trace of him arriving in France.

Hello to all
Thank you so much for your help, I could not have gathered this information, it is all so very interesting my husband and father-in-law are truly grateful.
