If he was adopted by Mary J Lawson then do you know his birth surname.

Hi
William died on 13th April 1917 ...trooper w. Lawson. In the Accrington observer it said William Lawson adopted son of Mary j Lawson from altham. Think Mary was in altham at time of 1901 census ..or maybe by 1911 she was in altham. In 1901 she may have been in sawley :-)

Thanks ..yes this is correct Mary Jane Lawson. Interesting that she moved to Blackpool later on. And yes , no mention of William. He left her his effects when he died as she was next of kin. Think that must have been from ancestry ? I wonder if he was born under a different surname . We did think she had perhaps adopted a family members son ...william....but whose ....will we ever know ...tough one. Thanks for all this extra info ...hopefully will get some clues ... :-)
