Is it free to do Scottish searches?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 30 Oct 2017 22:05

There are some Scottish records on FamilySearch, which is free.

But generally it's not free to search Scottish records.
Ancestry has quite a lot, if you have a sub - or someone on here would help.

The official website for Scottish records is Scotlands People, which is not free, apart from a very basic search (though it's sometimes surprising how much you can find out if you know how to manipulate the searches) and isn't a subscription site. You have to buy credits to view actual images of records.
However, with older records, you can view and print the image of the record for only a few credits - much cheaper than buying official copies.

The ones you can view are those older than 100 years for births
75 years for marriages
50 years for deaths

For newer ones, you have to buy a copy.

Scotlands People is the only place to see the Scottish 1911 census.

I was looking for Evelyn Robb born in Aberdeenshire 1927 not much info on this lady?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 31 Oct 2017 21:51

There were two Evelyn Robbs born in Aberdeenshire in 1927, and one in 1926.

If you know which one is the one you're interested in, the only way to find out who her parents were is to buy a copy of the birth cert.

Do you know anything else about her?

You have been in touch with the tree holder on Ancestry who messaged me thinking it was me !!

The same tree has her record as 1st June 1927 Aberdeen. Died 2001 Horncastle

Father Mitchum Robb mother not named

The tree holder said Ronald was their father in law

I gave you the list of Evelyn's on your other thread

Re your question - is the Scottish census free?

No.
All except 1911 are on Ancestry and FMP, but both are subscription sites.
1911 is only on Scotlands People, for which you have to buy credits.

FamilySearch, which is free, has 1841, 1871, 1891 only - and only shows you the particular person you search for - not the whole household - so not much use.

No Mitchum Robb records showing on Scotlandspeople.

I think you really need Evelyn's marriage certificate to find out who she states is her father and what his occupation is.

Do you known if Evelyn had any siblings please?

If she was born Aberdeenshire the district foveran would seem to be the right cert but you would have to purchase the cert for its info

I would suggest getting the marriage cert first though to see who she names as her father
