Ok so here's the problem my line Martha Emberton married a Daniei Tomkinson in 1859 she stated father Unknown but then when Martha started registering her children's births she flipped from Emberton maiden name to Sproson - she did this on my line James Henry Tomkinson 1872 wolstanton - I guess I'm trying to see if that Emberton name slots in some where

Emma

Emma Report 1 Nov 2017 15:22

Do you think a Sarah Emberton married a mr Clarke and then she married a James Sproson ?!!

Emma

Emma Report 1 Nov 2017 15:30

I suppose the Sarah Emberton who married Thomas ( maybe janes bro ) could of died and James Sproson and Sarah Clarke could of been guardians?!

Just to add Mary Sproson witnessed 1859 marriage

That's right but I guess in away that could indicate the stepfather thing with the Sprosons I'm soo stumped by this one

Emma

Emma Report 1 Nov 2017 15:47

With this Sproson name appearing on two of Martha's children birth cert ie that's what she said her maiden name was for two and the other 3 she said Emberton & also Mary Sprosin being a witness to Martha s marriage, I just can't suss the link as yet x

Should I be looking for a marriage between a Sarah (?!!) & mr Emberton and assuming mr Embertin died and the Mrs Sarah Emberton died after she became Mrs Thomas Sprowston - then James & other Sarah Sproson cared for the kids ( long shot I know )

Emma

Emma Report 1 Nov 2017 19:51

Looking back on the above info posted the James sproston & Sarah Clarke marriage is the wrong area - the Thomas Sprowston& Sarah Emberton more favourable but not sure where to go from here because forename not right with that census - thoughts please :-D

Just a quick question

Would a bride back in 1859 have to produce there baptism certificate or other proof before being allowed to marry in said church - this is why I'm now thinking Martha used Emberton on cert not Sproson?!!! :-)
