Clara did die in Zambia in 1953. - I know that is fact. She was living with relatives out there.

I have ordered Maureen's will/probate maybe that will help.

Maureen being born iin India is an unknown and we haven't been able to prove otherwise.

No proof listed.

I agree with Nyx that she probably stayed in India when Charles returned to the UK.
She may never have set foot in the UK in all her life.

As her daughter Maureen (not Charles's) was born June 1901 in India, Charles probably had good reason to leave her and return to England before then.

Defo the wrong Clara Maile - have just found the Romford Clara in someone's tree on Ancestry - she wasn't born in India.

The birth for Skingley Clara in 1911 is given as 1880 which ties in, rather than 1875 for your Clara in India.

Clara and Andrew my great-grandparents stayed in India until 1947 - it is the birth of Maureen/Mary Louise that is confounding and confusing.

I have just ordered the Maile/Skingley marriage certificate - maybe i have been following the wrong Clara. An old Aunt said that Clara's maiden name was Maile.

I rather think Clara would have known Charles had died as she married the year after in India.

Surely the most obvious thing is that Clara stayed in India?
She had a child, Maureen, probably not her husband's, he was already back here for the 1901 census without her, Clara married again after Charles death.

Or am I missing something that wasn't already given on the other thread? :-S

Wish i could find her on the 1901 census.

Thanks - I think i am going to order that marriage certificate of Maile to Skingley just to prove/disprove if it is the same person.

I think that is the way ahead - but surely she would have married as Clara Louisa McMorran?

Cyril and Winifred were her step-children. Elizabeth was Charles McMorran's first wife.

On the 1901 census she isnt with her husband. She wouldn't have been on any earlier ones or later ones due to being in India.

She was born in India in Jul 1879.
