Many Thanks Eringobraph.

I have now read it through properly (it's a long document!) and found the references to family. Hopefully that may open more leads.

I can see plenty of pictures of Anders Ohlsson but still looking for his descendants.

Eringobragh1916 Report 5 Feb 2018 19:39

Clive ...I read and re read it through and noted that the writers acknowledgements also included the Grandson of Axel..The Company was still in being as of his writing...
Did you note there was also mention of two daughters (sisters to Axel).

Google
Images Anders Ohlsson Cape Colony and there is lots of pictures...

Clive Report 5 Feb 2018 15:38

Thanks Eringobragh. That article on Anders Ohlsson is excellent. I think this may also explain why Jane White Symington was in Winchester in 1911 as per Mel Fairy Godmother earlier in the thread as I have found that Percy Crowther who she was visiting was the director of a brewing company as was Anders Ohlsson.

There must be a picture of his only son Axel Ohlsson (I presume this is Olof Axel Ohlsson) out there somewhere also.It says that he succeeded Anders as Managing Director of Ohlsson Brewery in 1906.

Thanks for all your help

Maddie, Glasgowlass and Argyllgran - it is my tree on ancestry and thanks to your help on earlier threads on here I am now in touch with a Blackwood descendant in Canada who has sent me photos of several ancestors. An amazing result!

safc and ArgyllGran - That Jersey link is useful. I can see a photo of Nancy Ohlsson on there. It looks like she married a Polish national and her surname has changed to de Kuszaba Dabrowski.

The nursing link for Rana Ohlsson is interesting as we have one or two unidentified photos of nurses from around that era.

safc - I have seen that National Archives page where Olof Axel Ohlsson has resigned as Swedish Vice Consul at Cape Town in 1906 and will take a look at that when I next visit there. I wonder if I could try and contact the Swedish Consul in South Africa and see if they have anything.

Greyghost - the Chelsea link is also interesting. I think that Nancy Ohlsson may have been based in Kensington at some point.

ArgyllGran Report 4 Feb 2018 17:15

As Bell is such a common name, and as mothers' maiden names can't be used to narrow down a search of births (after 1854) on Scotlands People, it's impossible to tell if Jane and Maurice had any children - unless you were able to find a Will which might name them.
Censuses are no help, either, as they didn't marry until 1912.

Re Elise -

I see that he was in Renfrewshire in 1911 and the marriage was in Paisley 1912.

His death recorded in Troon in 1935

But is this Maurice on the Valuation Rolls - from Scotland's People

Many thanks for the responses above

Eringobragh - I hadn't seen that. It gives me his college and schools so maybe a lead.

Patchem - I have viewed John Macalaster Symington's will on Scotlandspeople. I haven't found any others

Mel - that 1911 census is a bit of a mystery but I guess Jane White Symington was just visiting but not sure of the link with the Crowther family.
