FYI - you can search the US federal census and get free images thru 1940 - but note 1890 was 99.9% destroyed by fire. - at:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/list#page=1®ion=UNITED_STATES

Some state censuses are online there too, sometimes with images.
NY 1925 is online, but it's not very useful - you really need Ancestry there to get the h/h and the image.

Chris....I don't know if RLG was born in Liverpool would have to check with the daughter in Law but I am not much good with anything that's not either Irish or Scottish..!! Do know that the Garrett children were born on IOM.
I am wondering if Lilian J was not buried with Willie Mc but that her name was on the gravestone.....

Thank you for the continuing interest Alviegal...
I couldn't find a William McGrath and Elizabeth together either...but I am wondering if Lillian could be Lizzie mis-transcribed..given that they are sometimes very suspect I will check that out year of birth is correct...

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Noonan-241

Now I am totally perplexed....the above doesn't make sense especially the photograph of mother Bridget with 3 girls one with MA written on...

I have come to the conclusion after hours and hours of searching and cross checking...that Elizabeth Jay some how became Lillian Joy along the way ..seeing the Marriage Cert to William seems to be the only way to confirm this puzzle...

alviegal Report 8 Feb 2018 13:23

It is certainly very strange. I have been looking for William A McGrath who married Elizabeth Jay, who would obviously become Elizabeth McGrath.
This one keeps showing.

Seemingly Lillian is Lillian Joy (middle name or surname I'm not sure) and she emigrated in 1910.

Here is a picture of their gravestone with a birth year of 1895 for her.

There most probably is no connection at all but I thought I would incude this just in case.

Alviegal...The above is astonishing...!!

I was aware of the 1911 Census but 1939 details are certainly something new as it was believed Mary Ann went to US..and left the family behind...on Elizabeths sailing manifest she named as "friend" as contact in Liverpool....the 2 younger sisters Ruby and Kathleen both died in Liverpool ...
very very strange to say the least....

MargaretM...Thank you and yes she is the one I am after..
The Mrs George Jay is the mother of the Elizabeth Jay...although how she is named Jane Jay if the one in Onieda 1940 is correct I don't know..!!!

Bridget Noonan nee Condon was married to James Noonan and lived in Liverpool .Prior to Bridgets' departure to Troy (1897) she was widowed...her daughter "Mrs George Jay" (Mary Ann to be precise) married 1894 a Mr George Jay (Liverpool and Yarmouth) Elizabeth was the eldest daughter of that marriage....
Bridget originally was living in Troy with her sister in law Johanna McGrath Condon widow of Joseph Condon.
