Thanks Rose, I'm going through files ATM.

There is a marriage to Ethel Edmonson late 1911.

I thought I had found Edgar 1911 as a lodger at 20 Cedardale Rd, Fazakerly occ ship's quartermaster aged 23.

I have just purchased and downloaded the medal card from NA 1919 address when he applied for the medals was 103 Makin Street, Liverpool.

Sue, don't know if this helps or hinders, but it's likely to be the Edgar in the merchant navy I mentioned earlier, born 1888, age 13 on this record , father "dead", mother Maria Broad, grandmother Harriet Cartwright, on census for 1901 he appears as George?

Thanks again for helping.

We know the correct grandparents are:

Edgar G Broad
Bridget Whyte (White)

Their children were born in Liverpool.

Edgar died Q2 1961 aged 48 in Liverpool.

That would seem to confirm the DOB as stated on the 1939 register.

I am gradually breaking into my neighbour's house by banging my head on the wall.

(lol, same thought as me Dea, Mission!, looked also, 1911 Census Summary Books (Ancestry)

Google usually brings something up on Street names, and very often references in Newspapers.

Dea

I have also been through the entire street directory of old Liverpool and there is nothing which looks anything like Immission St. - There is not even a 'Mission St' which I might have expected!

Hi supercrutch, I would put money on him being the birth Mary posted

George Broad - M qtr 1912 west Derby V08b P 534

Too good a match with the age, and with a father named Edgar, and your Edgar stating middle initial G -- too much coincidence!

Sticking this here so I see what the certificate says when it comes :-)

We all have those mad moments when we decide to take another look at a particular branch.

I've got DAVIES marrying DAVIES in the South Wales valleys, I can't really buy too many birth certificates to sort out their possible 12 children.

also JONES moving there from Herefordshire ( as if there weren't enough there already )
The ones who stayed in Herefordshire had distinctive names like Mary, Jane, William and John.

meanwhile separate family line I have George JONES a labourer born in Southampton.....before registration of course.

...........One day when I'm feeling brave .................!!

Will do Gwyn...lolol

I looked at the George Edgar on Ancestry but nothing fits (even if he reversed his name).

I have ordered his marriage cert to Bridget, which I know is correct.

Why do I do this? lololol

Mary

Mary Report 10 Feb 2018 18:18

Edgar 1888 married Ethel Edmondson and I have found 8 births to that marriage one being George M qtr 1912 west Derby V08b P 534 could this be your Edgar ??

There is a Closed tree on Ancestry.co.uk with a George Edgar Broad born Immission Street Liverpool and Ethel born 1914 who also was a daughter of Edgar and Ethel nee Edmondson.

Then another closed tree with George Broad 1912 of 97 Immission Street.
