I now have the death cert. for my 3 x Gt.Grandfather Thomas Holland. He died 1853 in Middleton which was at that time in the County of Lancaster. The informant is given as Ann Phenix (could be Phoenix spelt wrong) living at least in the same street. I am trying to find if she is any relation but I have not been successful so far. Any help would be much appreciated. :-(

What was the street name please?

The address in Middleton was Wood Street, no number for Thomas or Ann. As far as I know he did not have a daughter (could be wrong, maybe just not shown up) only two sons James b.1844 my 2 x gt.grandfather and John Dennis b. 1847 and the whole family were born in Ireland. Do not know the date when they moved to England. Thomas was 44 when he died.

Further info he died 12th April 1853

So this is your family for reference.

Yes that is the correct family after Thomas' death
|
Could they have just arrived and were living in the lodging house when he died
|
Was that as below?, (can't see the one Holland for reference from Dea)
(what was occupation of Thomas?)
Chris :)

Hi Chris Occupation was Iron Founder. Name is Holland not Bolland Chris.
|
They could quite well have just arrived when Thomas died as you suggest. The family do not know exactly when they arrived we only know they were here when he died and are on the 1861 censusfor Tonge, Middleton. So Ann Pjenix could just have been another resident in the boarding house.

So sorry Chris I have had problems going on line but all is well now. 1871-James will be Thomas/Ann's son. He had a brother John Dennis b.1847 Ireland. The info relating to a Denis will be wrong as none of the info relates to the above John Denis (dates, parents etc.) The same with Bolland. I thank you so much for all the effort you have put in trying to help me. One thing I have discovered in my search is that there were many Thomas Holland's arriving from Ireland all in the same time span ie. 1847 when John Denis was born in Ireland and 1853 when Thomas died in Middleton. I have been looking at Liverpool too as I should think it quite likely that Liverpool would be where they landed when they arrived from Ireland. Thanks again.

Did wonder if that was Dennis Holland above, wasn't sure, or who he Married.
Chris :)
Strange though Thomas Holland Death 1853 (44) Middleton (Iron Founder)
Will, Thomas Bolland 1853 (44) Middleton (Iron Founder)
Must have been a lot about, lol.
