27 November 1869 - Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard - Cirencester,

ASHBROOK. On Tuesday, Mr. Ball held an inquest at the Hill Oak beerhouse, in the parish of Ampney St. Mary. on the body of Ellen Ash, aged 68, who died suddenly on Saturday night. It appeared that two men were quarrelling in the street, and that Mrs. Ash the deceased went out of doors to see what was the matter, and was frightened, she told a neighbour that "the job had done her a good deal of harm" , and she was shortly afterwards found lying on the ground on her face, near her cottage. She died soon after.
The jury returned a verdict that the deceased died from mental excitement.

(age probably should be 58 on above article)

I am researching this family for a distant relative and its a challenge.

Joseph Ash b 1811 Barnsley, Gloucestershire, in 1831 he married Ellen Evans and they continued to live in Ampney St Peter, Gloucestershire, a group of small villages near Cirencester.

I am confused about the number of children born, was there 2 Josephs or 1 Joseph married to Ellen Evans and or Ellen Meek/Meck. or a bad translation see below:

James b 1829, baptised 6 April at Ampney St Mary, Gloucestershire (they all were baptised at this church giving Joseph and Ellen as parents.)
Sarah Ann1832-1835 baptised 8th July 1832
Elizabeth b 1836, baptised 22nd May 1836
Now the problems
Sarah Ann b 1838 baptized 11th March 1838, mother's maiden surname Evans.
John b 1839, baptized 26th October 1839, mother's maiden name Evans
Edwin (twin) b 1841, baptized 24th July 1841,mother's maiden name Meck.
Maria (twin) 1841-1841 not baptized, mother's surname Meck
Mary Ann b 1843, baptized 9th April 1843, mother's maiden name Evans
George b 1845, baptised 16th April 1845, cannot find a birth reg
Maria b 1846, baptized 19th July 1846, mother's maiden name Evans
Harriet b 1848, baptized 27th February, mother's name Evans
Joseph b 1849,baptized 17th June 1849, mother's surname Meck
Lucy Ann b 1854, baptized 19th March 1854, mother's maiden name Meek.

Harriet is down as a witness to Joseph's marriage.

On paper it looks like 4 of the children belonged to Joseph Ash and Ellen Meek?
and 8 could be 9 of the children belonged to Joseph Ash and Ellen Evans.

Can find no marriage for Joseph getting married to anybody with the surname Meek/Muck.

Any help would be appreciated
