Find Ancestors

Morning all,

Mary Ann Copestick born 1831 Birmingham, Warwickshire.

Her parents were Henry Copestick and Priscilla (nee Buck).

In 1847 Mary gets into a spot of bother and is transported for 7 years.

As far as I can tell from the Tasmania Convict Records on FMP she married Charles Horne (born c1823) in 1851 and was to reside in Hobart. Her certificate of freedom was approved in Jan 1854 Launceston.

I now trying to find out what happened to her after 1854?

I know she didn't return home to her father as this article was placed in 1875:

Wed 23 Jun 1875 The Mercury (Hobart, Tas)

IF this should meet the eye of MARY ANN
COPESTICK, who arrived in this colony in
the year 1847 by the ship Asia, and she will apply
to SAMUEL JACKSON, of Bothwell, she will
hear of her Father, Henry Copestick, and some-
thing to her advantage.

I don't have world access on Ancestry and wondered if anyone can find anything for her after 1854. (Or any children she may have had?)

Thanks Andy- I'd missed that one. So maybe she left Tasmania when her sentence expired. I'll have to broaden the search.

I can't find anything for Mary Ann, or her husband Charles, or her son Charles Henry.

I've ordered her father's Will- he died in Jan 1876. If he did get to make contact he may have mentioned her.

That's great Chris- so I now know from their application to marry that Charles was also a convict.

His record is also on FMP- finding it a little difficult to read:

OH! Seems Charles Horne didn't stay with Mary Ann- in 1854 he was cohabiting with a Mary Walsh,

Thanks Maddie- It's possible but I've just seen that record- he was listed as 2 years 10mths in January 1854.

Mary's son was born 13th Dec 1851- so it's close. I think it must be the correct one as I don't see anything else for him. Unfortunately the record doesn't list an informant :(
