Find Ancestors

Now, I'm not entirely sure if I have posted about this person before.

On the 1939 register (Sheffield) he is listed as 'John Sterland' (or at least I think it says that but I'm beginning to think not) born 12/12/1901

I don't know anything about him as he just appears, living with one of my relatives

I can't find a birth or death for him?

I've tried Ancestry but you can no longer put the full DOB in the search, not sure why that's changed, you used to be able to do it.

Of course, the man may just have been lodging with your relatives in the course of his employment
