Thank you so much Abby, this looks really promising . I will try to follow
it up. I am not aware of any link with Tetbury but I remember my grandmother
saying there was a connection with the surname Fry. If this is Esther she would
have been about 48/9 in 1834. from Antonia

Just a footnote - although of course this couple are nothing to do with your Esther! - John Bird & Esther had four children: Sarah 1823, James 1824, William 1824, Ann 1828. James and Ann died in infancy. Sarah and William were both in service by 1841.

This one's also a widow:

Margaret -
I agree, it says "widow" in the marriage to Francis Dicks.

FS's version gives her name as Hester, and his surname as Dix:

Francis Dix
mentioned in the record of Francis Dix and Hester Bird
Name Francis Dix
Spouse's Name Hester Bird
Event Date 29 May 1824
Event Place Leonard Stanley,Gloucester,England

(Leonard Stanley is about 30 miles away from Bristol - maybe too far ?? )

The marriage to James Fry has already been ruled out..
