Notations in the left hand column for Bertha .......

Ashford-Smith written above Payne in blue ink

Notation in left column in blue ink: Cf.NHS/Q/CM80 30-6-52

Drew written in the column immediately to the left of the Names column, in GREEn Ink.

Notation in left column in green ink:- CR283 14-9-61 WR

I haven't worked out what the letters mean, but the two dates indicate the date the name change was made ny the NHS

Drew on 14-9-61

Thanks so much, might have to look into the Drew surname.

George Payne is my great grandfather, but he was a serial bigamist with various different used names. I knew about the Payne/Ashford-Smith but not Drew.

If I can help with an ancestry look up please do let me know.

Looks like her death got registered under both names, very odd

Name: Bertha Ashford-smith
Death Age: 84
Birth Date: 29 Mar 1914
Registration Date: Jul 1998
Registration district: Bromsgrove
Inferred County: Worcestershire
Register Number: 9
District and Subdistrict: 5121

Just wondering if there might be another hidden secret under the Drew surname.

Will have to check back over everything re: the Drew surname. Everytime I find another name it discovers another branch of family. ??

could it be that she didn't marry Mr Drew, but adopted his name and registered a name change to Drew with the NHS.

Yes that’s it. My great grandfather was deceased by 1961 so the drew surname wouldn’t be one of his many names. Thanks
