Hi genes members, I have in my family a Arthur Robert Penny born 1878 in London Battersea Surrey England. His parents are Edward Penny born 1851 and Mary Ann Maria Langton born 1852 HAYES Middlesex England. I am trying to find if Arthur went into the war, as I have been trying to find out if he married and can't find anything. I thought he may have been killed in the war. I don't know if he did go into any war just a punt. He also has siblings which are 1. Charlotte Maria Penny 1873 2. Charles William Thomas 1875 3. Henry John 1880 4. Corrie Christmas 1883 5. George Edward 1885 ( my grandfather ) 6. Lily 1888 If anyone can find his marriage or any war records it would be very appreciated thanks. Jill

I found this record on ancestry, an Arthur Robert being awarded 2 medals, which were both given to all soldiers who served in WW1.
UK, WWI Service Medal and Award Rolls, 1914-1920
Name: Arthur Robert Penny Military Year: 1914-1920 Rank: Private Medal Awarded: British War Medal and Victory Medal Regiment or Corps: Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) Regimental Number: PS/6106 Previous Units: 19 R Fus Pte PS/6106 Other Records: Search for 'Arthur Robert Penny' in other WWI collections War Diaries (France, Belgium, Germany): Search for 'Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment)' in the WWI War Diaries (France, Belgium, Germany) collection War Diaries (Gallipoli): Search for 'Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment)' in the WWI War Diaries (Gallipoli) collection
This is the Medal Card for the same person, seemingly showing that he also served in the Air Force .......
British Army WWI Medal Rolls Index Cards, 1914-1920
Name: A R Penny [Arthur Robert Penny] Regiment or Corps: Royal Fusiliers, Royal Air Force Regimental Number: 6106, 6106 Other Records: Search for 'A R Penny' in other WWI collections
He served in France from 14-11-15 until 12-04-16, and the medals were awarded by the Air Ministry
According to the Medal Index Card he applied for the medals on 6-11-20, and his address was given as 37 Manor Road, Bradford; then there is also another address given:- Iona, St John's Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent
I do not know that this is your Arthur Robert ............ and this may be the only information to find as only about 30% of WW1 records for soldiers survived after WW2 was over, and most of those are badly damaged.
