Good Morning ArgyllGran, Sylvia and Dea,
Many thanks for all your messages.
I hope there may be some helpful info on the second marriage cert.
I will post as soon as it at arrives.
If it is the same Christiana, she had a baby ( Alfred ) in Norwich around 1830.
She was not married. I do wonder if maybe her Mum and Dad were not married
either, could be why her father's name changed from Frederick on 1st wedding cert
to Charles on the second.?? Or maybe he could have been Charles Frederick or Frederick Charles.??
Regards
Sally

Thanks Dea

But there still seems to be no Christiana (without surname) or Hastings (without forename) baptised in East Ruston between 1800 and 1825 (on FreeReg)

Could you give us ALL the details from that first wedding cert please from 1858, including all occupations, addresses and also details of witnesses.

Perhaps we can try coming from a different angle?

Thanks,

Dea x

As she gave a different forename for her 'father' on that one, I fear it will not be of much help - but I hope that I'm wrong!

Sally Report 3 Jul 2018 15:24

Hi Erika,
Many thanks for your reply.
I did start looking for the baptism, nothing yet. I also could find nothing before 1851.
I can't wait for the second wedding cert, hope there maybe more info. !!!
Regards
Sally

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 3 Jul 2018 09:59

Her birthplace is recorded as Westwick, Norfolk, on 1851 census.

Have you looked for a baptism?

EDIT

Can't see any sign of her before 1851 on any website

Traveller in those days was a salesman who travelled around the country - the full title was 'Commercial traveller' or 'Travelling salesman'

What people now call 'travellers' would have been 'gipsies' then - which certainly wasn't classed as an occupation

Sally

Sally Report 3 Jul 2018 07:48

Good Morning Sylvia, Dear and Shirley,
I must say it did cross my mind why she would put traveller as a job. !!!!
I will wait for the second marriage cert to see what her father is listed as.
Regards
Sally

Hubby's grandfather was a traveller but he was a salesman for tobacco and fancy goods for his father's business

They weren't gypsies
