We’re looking for a Frederick Charles Eldridge. Erika has seen records suggesting the person who married Alice was Frederick Clement Eldridge.

If that is correct, considering Frederick Clement’s age & other records, he could have been recalled for Military Service
(Still haven’t been able to access the main PC :-|)

ArgyllGran Report 6 Aug 2018 17:20

So Alice with the two closed records in 1939 could be the right one .

Her birth fits the DOB given in 1939:

Alice Milner
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index, 1837-1915
Name: Alice Milner
Registration Year: 1902
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district: Medway
Inferred County: Kent
Volume: 2a
Page: 738

Had they separated?
Maybe Frederick just said he was widowed - or maybe it's a mistake as Erika has suggested .

Am I correct in thinking that the 1939 register wasn't like the censuses, when you're listed wherever you happen to be on the census date, and that Frederick and Alice would be listed at their usual addresses?

Darn It! You could be right about the 1939 Register.

Thank you for following through. That’s saved me £9.25

It's possible that his status on the 1939 entry is erroneous - whoever filled in the form used the father's info twice...............

According to a tree on Ancestry, which looks well-researched, Alice Milner's husband was Frederick Clements Eldridge, born 07/06/1900 Gillingham, died 1973, Cambridge

Yes, we/I had come to that conclusion. It was hoped the DC informant was a relative. That was not the case.

Once I’m on the PC, it might be possible to check the ER. However, they may not be online.

One line of enquiry was who he had married as he’s noted as a widow in 1939. If I choose to pursue this, then the Eldridge/Milner MC would be the next step.

Looking back at your first post, the death was registered in June, but the person cremated didn’t die until 5th September, so that couldn’t be the same man

Probably too late in pointing this out......

the Alice Eldridge living in medway has a child in 1937 and is still in the medway area

she says married .

so why is frederick c saying he is a widower in 1939

think that death cert may hold the info and hopefully the informant is a relation

Looks like Alice Milner may also have been from a 'Police family' ?

Maybe that's how they met?

Good idea. He's close enough to the main branch to warrant it.
Thank you for your help. :-)

but the death for the right birthdate could still be your man and he was in hospital in greenwich when he died

for instance my BIL lived in Herne Bay Kent and had a main aorta aneurism . Canterbury hospital didnt have the expertise to do the operation and he was transferred to Miller hospital in greenwich where he sadly died
( hospital no longer there )
he was brought back to Herne Bay in Kent for burial

i would be inclined to get that death cert

As you say, its a toss up between Eltham & Sidcup. Where we live it's a choice between Eltham & Bluebell Hill although there has been planning permission for one closer to Gravesend. Not sure if that's up & running yet.

Would you agree the Sep cremation isn't for my Frederick Charles Eldridge?

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 29 Jul 2018 11:29

well someone living in that area the nearest crem would be Sidcup

my parents lived in Charlton and died in the Greenwich reg district The choice was either Sidcup or Eltham for the cremations and Eltham was the chosen one
