Unknown Report 4 Aug 2018 20:41

I'm looking for the family of Mary Ann Knight born 1828 Tamworth. She married Benjamin Vaughan born 1823 Willenhall. They married in 1850 in Walsall.
Mary's father was Charles Knight born 1802 Tamworth her mother was Maria Brown born 1805 Tamworth.
I think her grandparents were Thomas Knight and Ann ?
Can anyone help please
Thank you
Wendy

Yes this looks like them but Mary Ann is missing. Would she be working? She would be about 13/14

Malyon I didn't know they had children born in Walsall. They must have moved there for work perhaps. That is where Mary Ann married.
Archives yes this looks like them. Would this be their marriage?

Oh dear why is the rest of the family living in Walsall and she's in the workhouse. How horrible that must have been for her. Wonder why he kept Caroline and let Mary Ann go in the workhouse. It states she was a servant would it be there.

Some baptisms show up for children of Thomas and Ann Knight ..........

you can go to the freereg link and look them up yourself.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Aug 2018 22:21

She would have gone out to work up to 4 years previously, and probably couldn't, or didn't want to, go back home for some reason.

She could have lost her job, or walked out.

That happened ................ children went out to work at age 10 or 11, and were considered adults at that time.

Sylvain Canada
Just looking on family search and there is a Thomas born 1785 parents Thomas and Ann and one born 1773 parents Thomas and Lydia. I think 1785 is cutting it a bit fine for Charles birth in 1802.
I will also check out your link. Thank you

Wendy ...............

why cutting it a bit fine?????????

Women did have children over a long period of time

OH's x time gt grandfather married in 1832, had their first child 5 months later and the last of 20 children was born in 1860. Yes, his wife was pregnant almost constantly for 28 years, with about 18 months the longest between births. She died about 7 years later, as did her husband!!!

1773 to 1802 is "only" 29 years, and therefore possible.

1785 to 1802 is even more possible

Just don't rule anything out!

Have checked in freereg and there is an Edward Knight born 1797 to Thomas and Ann so we are back to perhaps Thomas being born in 1773 but didn't marry Ann Sansom.

Hi
I've found
Joseph born 1780
John born 1783
Edward born 1797
Charles born 1802
All with parents Thomas and Mary Knight
So 1779 marriage could be correct but Thomas must have been born earlier than I thought.
Getting a little confused now
