hi i wondered if anyone on here is related to jim mitchell i think originated from maidstone kent. born 1915. he was married to a lady called evelyn orr/field in the late 1930,s they had a son called barry who died an infant. the lady is my grandmother. i would just like some more info as i dont know wether they divorced or he was maybe killed in action and she was a widow? its just that she had 3 children that were registered in their surname of mitchell and the eldest was born in 1941 but evelyn did not remarry until 1946 this being my grandfather. so i maybe related somehow. thank you. serena bellwood/clayton

The only way you can hope to get proper info about James is to purchase a copy of the marriage cert, which will tell you how old he was, his occupation, and his father's name (if he knew him)

Evelyn's second child, born 1943, was registered as Mitchell AND Butterfield (re-registered in 1965)

Her name is down as Butterfield as the NHS from which the 1939 register was complied began in 1949.2 years after the marriage......

Under the name Butterfield it has Mitchell crossed out and date of Buterfield.marriage,,,6-8-1946.Divorce was expensive in the day and needed good grounds to get one...after about a 7 year seperation.,unless you were rich.

It would be a guess James Mitchell was either KIA or at sea if a trawler man.

Maggie Field in 1939 is Evelyn's sister.
All the Field children have mms Orr.

As the marriage to Butterfield wasn't until 1946, and at least one child was born before that time, Evelyn obviously split with Mitchell and moved on.

We can't look for a death for him until we know how old he would have been, so the marriage cert is essential if accurate info is to be found.

The last Mitchell/Orr birth was registered in JFM 1946

Just as matter of info, Serena, you are not related in any way to James Mitchell, although you have a connection with his children, who were the half-siblings of Evelyn's Butterfield children.
