Freebmd is free! You do not even have to register

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

GRO (General Register Office) is the site where you buy certificates .... it is the official government site and charges £9.25 including post and packing anywhere else in the world for an official copy of the certificate (which can be used for official purposes, eg replacement certificate). Or you can get a PDF by email of birth and death certificates fro only £6. The PDF are good fro family history, but cannot be used for official purposes.

This site is also free, but you do have to register and set up an account with them, whether you are just searching or wanting to buy a certificate

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Follow the instructions for Ordering Certificates then Search ..... and Order ....

Register, then Search the GRO Indexes

I don't know how you got diverted to My Heritage ......... maybe clicked on an advertisement for My Heritage if you were using Google to find Freebmd?????

Many subscription sites are carrying and offering Freebmd ........ eg Genes Reunited, Ancestry, FMP, so make sure you get to the REAL one
