Hiya,

Researching my family history and this as far as I have gone with the Wood side as I'm completely stuck on Hugh Wood!

He married Christian/Christiana Spence (b. abt. 1767) and they had three children, all born in Stromness:

-John Wood (1794-?) - married Mary Craigie (b. 1794) in 1811 in Rousay and Egilshay
-Thomas Wood (1797-?)
-Peter Wood (1803-?)

Can anyone help at all with his birth, marriage and parents? Very hard to find information on the Woods in Orkney this far back.

Thank you in advance.

Megan.

The only (very slight) possibility for Hugh's birth could be this one with no first name shown on SP:

WOOD
-----
JAMES WOOD/ANNA NORN
M
00/00/1747
027/
10 27
Sandwick

The image of his marriage record on SP almost certainly doesn't show any more than safc has already posted (from FMP ?), but you might feel it's worth spending a few credits to have a look:

WOOD
HUGH
CIRSTIE SPENCE/
13/12/1785
027/
10 223
Sandwick

Thanks everyone, very helpful information. I did come across this "Cirstie Spence" but wasn't sure if it was the same Christian Spence I was after.

Christian / Christina / Christiana / Cirstie / Kirsty - all interchangeable variations.
